Hunter Smith, a native of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and a Southwest Minnesota State University track and field student-athlete has tragically passed away. He was announced dead in a statement that read “The news of the sudden loss of Hunter Smith (Class of 2020) leaves those who knew him in mourning. Please keep his family, friends, teammates, & coaches in your thoughts and prayers.”
Who was Hunter Smith?
Hunter Smith, a track and field student-athlete at Southwest Minnesota State University who was born in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, sadly died. Smith, a fifth-year senior on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, was adored and gifted. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 2020. He wanted to go to law school in the fall and was scheduled to receive his MBA this spring.
Smith was quite active on campus at SMSU, where he worked as a graduate assistant in the Student Center and as president of the college Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). As a Mustang athlete, Hunter was an outstanding leader, especially in the track and field department. Because he was involved in so many various activities, his influence was felt all around campus. Hunter was a better addition to our department.
